Wateree Hounds is more than a fox hunting club—it’s a community dedicated to preserving the timeless tradition of fox hunting while fostering camaraderie, land conservation, and respect for our shared heritage. Founded in 2020, Wateree Hounds has quickly grown into a cornerstone of the equestrian and sporting community in Camden and Kershaw County.
With a leadership team boasting over 300 years of combined hunting experience, Wateree Hounds is built on a foundation of tradition, expertise, and a shared love for the sport. Guided by our Masters and Board of Directors, we provide exceptional hunting experiences across premier hunting territories, while championing the principles of land preservation, wildlife management, and equestrian excellence.
Our Mission
At Wateree Hounds, we honor the cherished tradition of mounted fox hunting through the careful breeding and training of hounds and horses, the stewardship of historic equestrian properties, and the opening of trails that promote equestrian access while preserving natural habitats. Our mission extends beyond the hunt field, with a deep commitment to safeguarding Camden's landscapes for future generations.
Our Community and Legacy
The Wateree Hounds experience is rich with opportunities for both riders and supporters. We host over 50 fox hunts annually from October to March, as well as polo matches, social events, and conservation initiatives that bring our community together. From our annual Wateree Cup Polo Classic to the seasonal hunt breakfasts, each event celebrates the spirit of the sporting life while strengthening bonds among members and landowners.
As a registered pack under the Masters of Foxhounds Association (MFHA) since 2023, we adhere to the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical hunting, and land stewardship. Our recent transformation into a nonprofit organization reflects our commitment to fostering community engagement and ensuring that the traditions we cherish endure.
