Start the season in true sporting style with the Wateree Hounds Opening Cub Hunt at MacBurn Lodge. This year’s Opening Hunt is especially meaningful, as it will be our first hunt with new huntsman Tony Gammell. Tony has been a friend of the Wateree Hounds for many years and is well known to many of our members. We are delighted to welcome him into this new role and look forward to the season ahead under his guidance.

Riders and followers should arrive early to allow time for parking, tacking, and gathering for the pre-hunt briefing. The field will move off promptly at 9:00 AM sharp. Proper ratcatcher turnout is expected for riders, and followers are warmly welcomed. As always, please observe hunt etiquette—yielding to hounds and staff, respecting landowner boundaries, and maintaining safe positions in the field.

Following the hunt, we invite everyone to remain at the lodge for a light pitch-in breakfast, a perfect opportunity to share stories from the morning and toast the start of a new season.
